Mum-Of-Three Wanted To Build A Business Empire But Ended Up With 20,000 Manniquins

Roz Edwards, 43, landed back in Britain penniless after ten years in Malawi and wanted to be the next Mary Portas – the English retail guru. But after setting up her retail consultancy business in 2007, she was swamped with calls relating to a small part of her website that offered mannequins for hire. Realising her calling, Roz bought dolls cheap in recession-hit Britain, knocked them back into shape and sold them on or hired them out. After buying two shipping containers, Roz had to relocate to a warehouse outside Fulbeck, Lincs., - nicknamed “Dollywood” – to house her 20,000 models. In the weird world of Dollywood you can find legless children, pregnant women and a panting dog without a paw. Most of the models are hired out, so there’s a painful process of repairs for Roz - who is passionate about recycling - and her 20 staff between rentals.
