Artist creates project to acknowledge every solider who died in the battle of the Somme

Artist Rob Heard, with the Somme 19240 art work representing the 19,240 men who died in the first day of the Battle of the Somme during WW1. 30 July 2014. The Somme 19240 is a unique art project which seeks to physically illustrate and acknowledge every single British soldier who fell on the first day of the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916, the bloodiest day of battle in British military history. Of the 100,000 British troops who attacked enemy lines on that day 19,420 were killed.
