3000 year old Tarr Steps are rebuilt after flood damage

Engineers began the painstaking process of rebuilding one of Britain's oldest bridges - after the 1,000-year-old crossing was washed away in floods. The ancient 180ft Tarr Steps clapper bridge, situated on the River Barle in Exmoor, Somerset, dates back over a millenium. But the medieval crossing - made from 17 ancient stones - was washed away by a 10ft wall of flood water on December 22. Engineers moved on to the site to begin the process of lifting the two-tonne slabs out of the water with heavy lifting machinery.
