Zinedine Zidane steps down as Real Madrid coach

Zinedine Zidane says he's stepping down as Real Madrid manager after two-and-a-half years at the helm of the Spanish football club.
Thursday's surprise announcement also comes less than a week after he guided the club to its third consecutive Champions League title.

"I think it's the moment, both for me, the team and the club (to step down). It's a strange moment to do so, I know, but an important one too. I had to do this for everyone…..This team has to keep winning and needs a change in order to do so. They need a new voice, perhaps a different way to work and that is why I took this decision."

The 45-year-old Frenchman took over from Rafael Benitez in January 2016 and has since won nine trophies, including one La Liga title.
