National Assembly to continue screening of government's extra budget bill
  • 6 years ago
The National Assembly will continue its screening of the government's three-point-six billion U.S. dollar supplementary budget bill on Thursday.
A subcommittee of the parliament's budget committee will be going over the specifics of the bill.
But with just one day left before a scheduled plenary session to vote on the bill... and given that rival parties are at odds over the specifics.,... it's unclear whether deliberations will be complete on time.
The ruling party says the bill needs to be passed swiftly to address youth unemployment and support ailing regions hit by corporate restructuring,... but the main opposition party has called for a cut in the budget saying some areas have no relevance to job creation.
Minor opposition parties have also raised concern there isn't enough time for thorough screening.
For now, rival parties have agreed to do all they can until Friday... and will discuss the matter again from there.
