Woman survives after 56-wagon train passes over her in India

A woman in Purulia, West Bengal, had an incredible escape by lying flat on railway tracks she had accidentally fallen onto as a 56-wagon goods train passed over her.

Himani Manjhi, 45, was walking towards the Purulia station from her Nimtand residence to take a train to Tatanagar, the police said.

While crossing the tracks, Ms Manjhi tripped and fell down on the tracks.

Onlookers and railway staff who witnessed Ms Manjhi's fall noticed a goods train approaching on the same tracks and asked her to remain still until the train passed over her.

"The 56-wagon-long goods train passed over her and she miraculously escaped with only minor cuts and bruises from the fall. She was taken to the station and after receiving first aid, she left for Tatanagar," a senior railway official at Purulia station said.
