Nighttime Footage Captures Lava Lake Overflows Onto Halemaumau Crater

Lava overflowed from the summit of Kilauea into the Halemaumau Crater in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on April 27.The largest of the flows from the lake into the crater was between 6:15 am and 10:30 am on April 26, when the lava covered 90 acres, or two-thirds, of the crater floor.The USGS called the event the first significant overflow of the summit lava lake since 2015.This footage shows the lava lake overflow on the April 27, as well as lava continuing to bubble.
