Clashes erupt as protesters try to topple Truman statue in Athens

Anti-war protesters clash with police as they try to bring down a 3.5-metre statue of former US President Harry Truman, two days after the US, UK and France launched airstrikes on Syria. Police used tear gas and stun grenades. Two protesters were detained and at least three people were injured.
“What we did today is a symbolic move against the U.S. and the war (in Syria),” said Yorgos Perros, a member of the communist-affiliated union PAME in an interview with Reuters. “The statue is a symbol of the US imperialism in Greece.”
Athens, Greece, 16 April, 2018.
