Books & Authors: Survive or Sink by Naina Lal Kidwai: A call to action
  • 6 years ago
Naina Lal Kidwai’s Survive or Sink looks at urgent issues like pollution, sanitation, water, the need for green energy, and women’s empowerment with a special focus on India. While the book has been recommended by everyone from Melinda Gates to Nandan Nilekani and the LSE’s Lord Nicholas Stern, former governor of the RBI Raghuram Rajan puts it most succinctly: ‘Naina Kidwai brings her vast experience from years of working in finance and public service and from participating in domestic and international debates to explain the problem of water use in India: Why it is so important, how we are falling behind, and what we need to do. There is no water shortage in India, and little difficulty in keeping our rivers flowing and clean, in getting rid of the scourge of diarrhea and another waterborne ailments, in disposing of waste profitably , and in sparing our people the indignity of open defecation if we follow through on some of the important suggestions in this book.”
