Nicaragua protest death toll jumps to 34: rights group
  • 6 years ago
Violent anti-government rallies in Nicaragua have left at least 34 people dead - up from a previously reported 27.
A leading rights group in the country said Wednesday it found more bodies in Managua's state morgue of people previously reported missing and also added people who had died of wounds sustained in the protests.
The week-long protests were initially sparked by President Daniel Ortega's pension reforms, which he later scrapped amid mounting pressure.
