Advocacy Groups Claim YouTube Violates Children’s Privacy Law
More than 20 advocacy, consumer and privacy groups plan to file a complaint against YouTube for violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. In the complaint, the groups argue that YouTube, a subsidiary of Google, has been collecting personal information and tracking users under the age of 13. The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act states that sites like YouTube need parents’ consent before collecting data on children younger than 13. According to The New York Times, the company has been notified about the complaint and said: We will read the complaint thoroughly and evaluate if there are things we can do to improve Because YouTube is not for children, we’ve invested significantly in the creation of the YouTube Kids app to offer an alternative specifically designed for children.
