Walmart Adding 500 Pickup Towers to Stores Across U.S. The company made the announcement Thursday, saying that all 500 will be added by the end of the year. This will allow more customers access to in-store pickup after they order a product online. Once a customer completes an order, they will be notified when their item is available for pickup at a Pickup Tower. Then, they can drive to the store, scan a barcode into the kiosk computer, and the item is delivered into the customer’s hands. Walmart introduced 200 towers to its stores last year and saw more than half a million orders sent to the towers. They are also adding Pickup Lockers inside of the new 500 Pickup Towers to allow for larger objects to be stored. Walmart estimates that after all Pickup Towers are built, roughly 40 percent of the U.S. population will have access.
