Why American Hot Sauce Is Under Threat

Avery Island, Louisiana, has one thing that other islands don't, and that's the Tabasco business. Now, thanks to climate change, hot pepper growers are struggling with land erosion, and sea water that's getting so salty it's injuring the plants. And it's not just climate change that's threatening Avery Island. Canals dug by the oil and gas industries also allow sea water to get onto the island. According to Mother Nature Network, the hot sauce industry isn't really in danger as a whole.
