Tobacco Plant May Help Flu Vaccine Production

At Durham's Research Triangle Park, thousands of tobacco plants are growing for something other than cigarettes.
Inside the sprawling greenhouse, a cousin of Nicotiana tabacum is being tested to produce a flu vaccine faster than current methods.
Known as Nicotiana benthamiana, the flowering plant is native to Australia, but scientists in North Carolina are testing the plant to produce a vaccine in weeks.
