President Trump responded bluntly when aides urged him to sign the spending bill in order to avoid getting the blame for a government shutdown, reports the Wall Street Journal.
President Trump is said to have responded bluntly when confronted with the possibility that he may be blamed for a government shutdown if he doesn't sign the massive government spending bill awaiting his approval.
According to the Wall Street Journal, inside sources have quoted Trump as saying, "F-- that."
He made the reported comment to his aides after sharing his reservations about the bill on Twitter.
"I am considering a VETO of the Omnibus Spending Bill based on the fact that the 800,000 plus DACA recipients have been totally abandoned by the Democrats (not even mentioned in Bill) and the BORDER WALL, which is desperately needed for our National Defense, is not fully funded," Trump tweeted on Friday.
Perhaps confronted by the potential blame for a shutdown or by his reported promise to House Speaker Paul Ryan to sign the bill, Trump went on to approve the $1.3 trillion spending plan but not without continuing to voice his criticisms.
"There are a lot of things that I'm unhappy about in this bill. There are a lot of things that we shouldn't have had in this bill, but we were, in a sense, forced — if we want to build our military — we were forced to have," Trump said at a press conference.
"I will never sign another bill like this again," Trump added. "I'm not going to do it again. Nobody read it. It's only hours old."
