Astronomers record fastest deep space radio burst, origin unknown
  • 6 years ago
DEEP SPACE — Astronomers recorded strongest ever fast radio burst from outer space using the Parkes Observatory radio telescope in Australia earlier this month.

According to Inquisitr, signal FRB 180309 was heard by the telescope on March 9. It's signal-to-noise ratio was 4 times larger than the previous strongest signal.

Astronomers don't know what it is, but some speculate it could be anything from stars colliding to interstellar travel, according to a report by the Search for Extraterrestrial at University of California, Berkeley.

Details of the signal were published on the website Astronomer's Telegram.
