Astronomers Identify Repeating Radio Bursts For The First Time
  • 8 years ago
A team of astronomers reported it has come upon 10 fast radio bursts that appear to come from both far away and a solitary source.

Ever since a radio burst coming from space was first identified 15 years ago, many astronomers have been searching for more, some hoping to detect repeat signals from the same entity.

While the latter sort of effort has not proven successful over the past decade and a half, that recently changed.

A team reported it has come upon 10 radio blips that appear to come from both far away and a solitary source.

The signals are technically called fast radio bursts, or FRBs and are often attributed to truly enormous cataclysms occurring in the universe, such as exploding stars.

As the object creating the burst is decimated in the process, it would explain why up until now only once-occurring signals have been detected.
