Shitala Mata is a tribal deity who is a divine form of Goddess Durga. Legend has it that Goddess Shitala wears red attire and rides around on a donkey. She has four arms which hold a silver broom, winnow fan, a bowl and an urn with Gangajal. Goddess Shitala protects mankind from the deadly diseases and plagues, which can otherwise have negative effects. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Katyayani, an incarnation of Shakti had manifested as Shitala Mata in order to kill the deadly demon Jwarasur, who threatened the world with deadly fever and plague. There are several references to her greatness in the Puranas.

इस साल शीतला अष्टमी का पर्व 9 मार्च यानि शुक्रवार को मनाया जायेगा। चैत्र मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी तिथि को शीतलाष्टमी मनाई जाती है। कई जगह इस पर्व को 'बसौड़ा', 'बासौड़ा' भी कहते हैं। मान्यता है कि इस दिन की पूजा जिस दिन होलिका दहन होता है उससे अगले सप्ताह उसी दिन करते हैं। कहीं-कहीं होलिका दहन के बाद आने वाले पहले सोमवार को भी इसकी पूजा की जाती है। इस दिन शीतला माता की पूजा की जाती है। आइये जाने इस पर्व से जुड़े विशेष महत्व और शुभ मुहूर्त के बारे में .....
