White House Slams Oakland Mayor For Tipping Off Immigrants About ICE Raid

Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday slammed Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf for tipping off immigrants about a raid.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday slammed Libby Schaaf, the Democratic mayor of Oakland, California, for tipping off immigrants on Saturday about a raid by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "I think it's outrageous that a mayor would circumvent federal authorities and certainly put them in danger by making a move such as that, and that's currently under review by the Department of Justice," Sanders said at a press briefing. Thomas D. Homan, the deputy director of ICE, echoed those remarks in a statement. "The Oakland mayor's decision to publicize her suspicions about ICE operations further increased that risk for my officers and alerted criminal aliens -- making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda," Homan noted. However, Schaaf has stood by her decision to defend Oakland's "sanctuary city" status.
"We have to fight against the racist myth that the Trump administration is trying to perpetuate -- that immigrants are dangerous criminals," she said at a news conference on Wednesday.
