White House denies U.S.-Israel discussing settlement annexation
  • 6 years ago
The White House has dismissed as false a claim by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he had discussed the possibility of Israel annexing Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Monday's denial by the White House came just hours after Netanyahu said he had discussed the issue with the Trump administration "for some time."
It showed a rare display of discord between the U.S and Israel after both countries enjoyed improved relations since President Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Right-wing Israeli lawmakers are trying to push for the so-called Sovereignty Law, but its passage could seriously harm any hope of a two state solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine and also spark global criticism.
