Lord Bates Offers His Resignation for Being Late

Lord Bates, the international development minister, offered his resignation “with immediate effect” after being late for a debate on Wednesday, January 31.Bates apologised for his late arrival and declared his will to resign. “I’m thoroughly ashamed for not being in my place and so I therefore shall be offering my resignation to the prime minister with immediate effect,” Bates said before leaving the House of Lords. The other peers reacted crying “no” towards him.This is not the first resignation for the peer, who left the Home Office in 2016 to walk 2,000 miles from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro for UNICEF.
