Police Make Arrests at Pro-Navalny Rally in Tomsk

Police in central Russian city of Tomsk arrested at least three supporters of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny during an anti-corruption protest on January 28, according to this footage published by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.The Tomsk protest was one of multiple nationwide protests that Navalny supporters took part in. Navalny himself was arrested the same day in Moscow as he walked to the demonstration area of one of the protests.Navalny had called for the demonstrations to take place after he was disqualified from standing in the 2018 Russian presidential election due to a criminal record stemming from 2013 embezzlement charges. Navalny and his supporters claim the charges were politically motivated.On the same day as the nationwide protests, police officers raided Navalny’s offices in Moscow, claiming that they were investigating a bomb threat, according to a spokeswoman for Navalny.
