Louvre Shuts Islamic Art Display Due to Rising River Seine

On Wednesday, Reuters reported that the Louvre museum in Paris closed its basement display of Islamic art, after a sharp rise in the level of the river Seine, which has seen weeks of heavy rain. Tourists and locals have been advised to stay away from the banks for fear of being caught by swirling water. In a statement the world's largest museum said that it had decided to shut its basement gallery as a protective measure because a large part of the building borders the Seine. It did not say whether it was moving artworks from the area.
