Lava Fountaining at Mayon Volcano 'Reaches Height of 600 Meters'

Lava spewed 600 metres above the crater of the Mayon Volcano in the Philippines, on Tuesday, January 23, as officials maintained a Level 4 warning.This video was taken in the province of Albay by officials at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs). The clip shows lava spewing from Mayon on January 23. The eruption created a three-kilometre high ash plume, a spokesman for Philvolcs said. The video was captured from the Mayon Volcano Observatory, Lignon Hill, Legazpi City, in the province of Albay.On Wednesday, January 24, two episodes of lava fountaining were subsequently confirmed by Phivolcs to Inquirer.net.On Monday, Phivolcs warned there was an imminent threat of eruption, CNN Philippines reported.The volcano’s danger zone has been extended to a five-mile radius, the news site reported.The volcano has shown increasing activity within the last 10 days.
