A man filmed the dramatic moment a flash flood hit his home in Montecito, California, on Tuesday, January 9, as the town endured storms and mudslides.Marco Farrell captured the water, carrying mud and debris, cascading down the road as he stood on his driveway. In the footage, just before the water emerges, he can be heard shouting at a nearby motorist: “The flash flood is right there! Get out of here! Go!”The vehicle is seen reversing away from a wave of water and debris barrelling down the road. Farrell runs back into his home and is heard talking to his mother about how the flood waters broke into their home, submerging their furniture and home.Farrell told ABC that he, his parents and their dog took refuge in their hallway filled thigh-high with water for more than an hour as the flood rushed through their home. He later wrote on Facebook that he and his family had survived the dramatic incident, posting: “We are alive. My parents, Lucas and I are safe. 4 feet 9 raging mud in the house. My 4runner is gone from the driveway..”The Santa Barbara County Fire Department reported that 100 homes were destroyed by deadly storms that caused mudslides. NBC Los Angeles reported 13 people died and more than 20 were injured in the slides. Officials warned the number of fatalities could increase as rescuers continued searching homes.
