The Severn Bore Thursday 21st September

Hiya folks, and Happy New Year. This is a video I made last year showing a natural phenomenon called the Severn Bore. This is a type of tidal wave caused by the second highest tide on the planet in the Bristol Channel. When this high tide travels up the River Severn ,it causes a wave to form when the river narrows dramatically in Gloucestershire. The Bore travels for 15-20 miles from Newnham On Severn up to Maisemore ,just north of Gloucester city.

The Bore height is determined chiefly by how high the tide is in the Bristol Channel, but can also be affected by barometric pressure, the wind direction and the river level before a bore is due.Large 5 star bores (which are rare) can be 8ft plus in height.Usually large Bore waves attract surfers,as the bore doesn't break like a traditional Ocean Wave, but can travel continuously for several miles. The world record for longest Surf ride on a single wave was set on a Severn Bore

For this video,i used my quadcopter, a Parrot Bebop 2 to film the bore, which gives a good aerial perspective of the Bore. This was only a 2 star bore,in 2018 there are much larger 4 star Bores forecast.
