Largest amphibious aircraft makes succesful maiden flight

China has tested the world's largest amphibious aircraft, the AG600, codenamed "Kunlong," flew for almost an hour on its maiden voyage.

China's state owned Aviation Industry Corp spent almost 8 years developing the aircraft which will be used for firefighting and maritime rescue. However, it also has military applications.

Several media reports have also noted its potential use in the South China Sea where China, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Brunei all have overlapping territorial claims.
