statements which stand firm against moral and social injustice have had a long tradition in popular music – not only since the relatively young “Karma Police” – and contribute to its subversive strengths. The essence of this social and moral conscience can be found in “Lions”, the new single by the Viennese band AT PAVILLON. Driven by stomping drums, the song gets straight down to business and makes the message clear: “We are lions, we are born to lead, we avoid to throw the first stone on you, but you didn't give us any other options .“ The song quickly evolves into a three-minute dance-manifesto for fairness and for the unconditional belief in standing up for ones’ values and against racism and the socially entrenched attitude of turning a blind eye to the injustices around us. The versatile voice of lead singer Mwita Mataro and the highly energetic instrumentation make “Lions” a masterpiece: a driving dance-track with a clear message and the prequel to the band’s forthcoming album. To put it like Shakespeare, there is only one thing left to say: “Well roared, lion!”
