Dramatic footage of massive flames forming what appears to be a fire tornado as a wildfire hit Ventura County in Southern California.

The video, captured on December 5 by a driver inside his car, shows the 'firenado' raging close to a motorway.

''Oh my god! Look at that!'' says the man.

''Holy sh**! I'm getting out of here!''

''Daddy, daddy,'' screams a girl.

Firefighters can be heard in the background: ''Back away from the area!''

''You need to start evacuating.''

The filmer later wrote online:

''I was checking on the safety of my best friends mom and wanted to send him a video to show him how close the fire was to his mom's house.''

''Next thing I knew the tree became engulfed in flames and the fire tornado shot out over foothill road and over the house across the street.''

''It turned towards me and got a little too close for comfort.''

The so-called Thomas Fire has since Monday ripped through Ventura County, which lies north of Los Angeles, and according to reports triggered evacuation orders for at least 150,000 people.
