Editorials published by both the Washington Post and CNN blast White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders for her, as they see it, humiliating Thanksgiving exercise.
Sanders asked journalists during Monday's press briefing to preface their questions with a statement about what they were thankful for.
Post opinion writer Kathleen Parker notes, "…reporters obliged. Or, should we say, obeyed. For this, no doubt, Sanders was grateful."
"Yet again, she controlled the crowd, though this time by candy-coating her usual condescension with faux fellowship." Parker further writes.
She calls Sanders' reporter handling at large a "daily humiliation of the press, making them seem like churlish children."
CNN National Security Analyst John Kirby expressed similar sentiments in his piece, "How Sarah Sanders Humiliated the Press," saying the Thanksgiving exercise, "made me embarrassed for the reporters and angry at Sanders and this White House for their arrogance and condescension."
Notably, he did also admit, "it was nice to see hard-bitten reporters express thanks to their families, to the troops and to our democratic ideals," and said he especially enjoyed it when "Cecilia Vega of ABC News said she was thankful for the First Amendment."
