CCTV footage has emerged of a man narrowly avoiding being hit by an oncoming train in southern Sydney after he jumped onto the tracks to cross the platform. The footage, from August 2017 but released on November 6, shows the man rolling onto the platform at Banksia Station a second away from being crushed. The incident was described as “idiotic” by the NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance, who told Nine News he would be reviewing penalties for reckless behaviour at train stations. In a media release, Sydney Trains chief executive Howard Collins also lashed out at such risky actions.“This is dangerous behaviour that has to stop,” Collins said. "It’s beyond comprehension what goes through people’s minds when they behave like this. It’s time to put a stop to this foolishness.“These are mindless and thoughtless acts that needlessly put lives at risk. They not only delay our services but can be quite traumatising for our customers and our staff who witness these acts.” Credit: Sydney Trains via Storyful
