Kenneth Wolstenholme's WW2 RAF log indicates he thought it was all finished on air an assault
WARTIME logbooks composed by sports pundit Kenneth Wolstenholme have uncovered how he thought it was all finished when his plane was shot up by the Germans. Wolstenholme was unmistakably shaken by the close miss which practically prompted the flying machine jettisoning in the sea. He expressed: "Extremely temperamental do. Three shells in nose – one got Polly. P (port) wing crushed; tail and lift perplexed. Enormous shell gap in blade; bomb entryways shot away; electric framework shot away; cockpit, gut, the two motors filled with holes. "Saw Bounce (the pilot of another plane) run down with the motor ablaze, made chaos of island. Sacks of smoke, clean and flame. "Glad to see West Raynham (RAF base in Norfolk) and land. Flushed that night – express gratitude toward God." Wolstenholme, who passed on in Walk 2002, matured 81, went ahead to work for BBC TV and commentated on the World Container last in 1966. His awards and logbooks are tipped to offer for £9,000 when they come available to be purchased on November 22.
