A principal in Massachusetts has issued an apology after a mock tombstone for President Trump was displayed at a school Halloween event.
“Our school, and this includes school events sponsored by related groups, is not the place for politics," Dr. Telena Imel wrote in a letter sent to the parents of students at West Parish Elementary. "In planning future events, it will be made clear to organizers that school is not the place to engage in or to display political agendas or opinions.”
According to WBZ, the incident occurred Friday night at the school where a Halloween-themed event included a bean bag game with four fake headstones--one of which featured the name “Don Trump.”
The next day, local Republican committee chair Amanda Orlando Kesterson posted a picture of the game to her Facebook page, calling it a “disgusting display.”
“We should teach our children that the office of the president ALWAYS deserves respect," Kesterson noted.
The school’s principal echoed this thought in her letter, saying that “a number of attendees rightfully felt that it showed disrespect.”
However, she also indicated that the parent who had brought in the decoration intended it to be funny.
