President Trump took to Twitter on Saturday and attacked Hillary Clinton again over the 2016 election.
“Crooked Hillary Clinton spent hundreds of millions of dollars more on Presidential Election than I did," Trump tweeted. "Facebook was on her side, not mine!"
“Keep hearing about ‘tiny’ amount of money spent on Facebook ads. What about the billions of dollars of Fake News on CNN, ABC, NBC & CBS?” the president wrote in another tweet.
His comments were made as the social media company faces scrutiny after admitting that it had accepted about $100,000 in ads from hundreds of accounts believed to have been connected to Russia, reports the Washington Post.
Of the 3,000-plus ads the company has submitted to lawmakers, some were said to involve the Black Lives Matter campaign while others reportedly linked Clinton to Muslim support.
As Democratic Senator Mark Warner has said, “Their aim was to sow chaos. In many cases, it was more about voter suppression rather than increasing turnout.”
The tech company’s chief security officer Alex Stamos has echoed this assessment, indicating that rather than promoting a specific candidate, most appear intended to spread “divisive social and political messages across the ideological spectrum.”
However, NPR says he has also pointed out that “the ads appeared over two years starting in June 2015, the same month Donald Trump announced his candidacy.”
The material is currently being scrutinized as part of the U.S. investigation into allegations that Russia tried to sway voters towards Trump
