Hillary Clinton has revealed the extent to which she did not want to attend President Trump’s inauguration.
During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, she was asked about her presence at the event, and she said, “I really tried to get out of going.”
‘Because I was going--not as the candidate or the opponent--but as a former first lady because the tradition is, presidents and former first ladies all show up regardless of Republican or Democrat to show support, continuity of our government," Clinton said.
“We thought, okay, maybe others aren’t going," she continued. "So we called the Bushes, and the elder Bushes were in the hospital, which I think was legitimate. So then we called the younger Bushes, and they said, ‘yeah, we’re going.’ We called the Carters, they said, ‘yeah, we’re going.’ So Bill and I looked at each other and said, 'well, we gotta go.'"
Clinton had explained her presence in a tweet as well.
“I'm here today to honor our democracy & its enduring values," she wrote on January 20. "I will never stop believing in our country & its future.”
