Steve Bannon has blasted former President George W. Bush, asserting that his time in office was the most “destructive” in U.S. history.
During a speech to the California Republican Party on Friday, the former White House chief strategist said, “There has not been a more destructive presidency than George Bush's.”
Bannon went on to criticize his administration’s role in allowing the rise of China, calling it a “strategic mistake of incalculable problems."
The Breitbart executive’s attack came a day after Bush gave his own pointed speech about bigotry, partisan conflicts, and threats to democracy which, according to Politico, was “an unmistakable denunciation of Trumpism...without mentioning the president by name.”
The former U.S. president made the remarks Thursday at a George W. Bush Institute event, saying, “Bigotry seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication.”
Referring to this speech, Bannon said Bush had “embarrassed himself.”
“Speechwriter wrote a highfalutin speech. It’s clear he didn’t understand anything he was talking about," Bannon added. "He has no earthly idea whether he’s coming or going, just like it was when he was president of the United States.”
