Russia and the U.S. team up to build lunar space station

WASHINGTON / MOSCOW — NASA and Russia's space agency Roscosmos will team up to work on a new space station near the moon.

Space agencies from Japan, Europe and Canada are also interested in working on the project that is currently at the conceptual stage of design.

According to Popular Science, the two agencies last month signed an agreement to work on the Deep Space Gateway at the International Aeronautics Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

The proximity of the station to the moon would create opportunities for lunar missions and future deep space exploration such as missions to Mars, and beyond.
