Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer has reportedly retained an attorney to help him navigate the investigation spearheaded by special counsel Robert Mueller.
According to The Daily Beast, he has hired criminal defense attorney Chris Mead whose company biography references his expertise in white collar criminal defense and Congressional investigations, among other areas.
Spicer has been named as one of six past or current Trump administration officials Mueller reportedly told the White House his team would likely ask to interview as part of the probe into Russia’s election interference, reports the Washington Post..
Most of the other top aides who were listed--including communications director Hope Hicks, former chief of staff Reince Priebus, and counsel Don McGahn--are already said to have secured the services of an outside lawyer.
Some are speculating Spicer may be particularly valuable to the Mueller investigation because of the extensive notes he is believed to have taken.
In fact, Axios reported last week that former colleagues have indicated “he filled ‘notebook after notebook’ during meetings at the Republican National Committee, later at the Trump campaign, and then at the White House.”
While Spicer himself declined to comment, the site quotes one unnamed source as saying, “Sean documented everything.”
