US ambassador tells EU ‘get over all the emotions’ and make Brexit a success
BREXIT is positive and the European Union (EU) needs to “get over all the emotions” and make a success of it, the US ambassador to the UK has declared. Mr Johnson urged the EU to buck its ideas and make Brexit a success for both the UK and the EU. He said: “The UK is a great customer of Europe. It is one of the best customers and you need to treat you customer right. “It is pretty logical once you get over all the emotions.”He said it was in the EU’s “best interests” to strike a good Brexit deal with the EU. And Mr Johnson promised to work to make the Special Relationship between the UK and the USA even more profitable. He said Mr Trump’s plan was “jobs, jobs, jobs, both in the US and the UK”. The ambassador continued: “He told me to focus on prosperity and security. “We want to have a healthy economic relationship. They want to see business continue as harmoniously as possible.“I will do everything I can to encourage investment. We do not want to take people down, we want to bring them up.”
But he warned Theresa May to considering investing more in security. Mr Johnson said Britain must ask itself “whether you have the capability you need to be a powerful nation going forward”.
