Missing person case solved: Alabama woman survived a month on berries and mushrooms

BULLOCK COUNTY, ALABAMA — A woman who had been missing since July 18 was finally found by police naked and covered in a rash of bug bites and scratch marks.

Prior to the disappearance, Lisa Theris, 25, of Louisville was with her friends Manley Davis and Randall Oswald, and those two were up to no good. They were reportedly on their way to a camp site to steal something, NBC-affiliate WSFA 12 News reported.

Wanting nothing to do with the burglary, Theris said she jumped out of the car instead. The two men were arrested later, but had not seen Theris since she fled.

On July 23, Theris’s parents reported her missing to the police when she did not return home, officers then embarked on a multi-county search for Theris’s possible whereabouts.

According to Bullock County Sheriff Raymond Rogers, Theris was not familiar with the area she where she jumped out of the car, went into the woods and got lost. Theris reportedly survived by drinking water out of a brook and eating berries and mushrooms.

Theris was found naked by a motorist on Highway 82 when she emerged from the woods Sunday afternoon. She was covered in dirt, bug bites, and scratch marks. Police have decided to give Theris more time to rest and recover before asking her more questions regarding what happened to her, CBS-affiliate WAFB 9 News reported.

The finer details of how Theris survived alone in the wilderness are still unclear, and no information has been released as to how she lost her clothes. She did have one thing to say though, that her will to live was rooted in her love for her family.
