A high-ranking member of the Democratic National Committee has expressed regret over calling North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s recent behavior "more responsible" than President Trump’s.

A high-ranking member of the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, has expressed regret over calling North Korean president Kim Jong-un’s recent behavior more responsible than President Trump’s. 
Minnesota Representative Keith Ellison, who is also vice chair of the DNC, was at a Netroots Nation conference Friday when he said, “North Korea is a serious thing.” 
He then said of Trump, “You have this guy making bellicose threats against somebody else who has very little to lose over there. Kim Jong-un — the world always thought he was not a responsible leader. Well, he’s acting more responsible than this guy is.”
Ellison concluded, “The time for cranking up the anti-war machine is right now.” 
Despite applause after that statement, the lawmaker later reflected on his previous comment about the two presidents, telling the Washington Post, “That was one of those I wish I’d not said. It’s tailor-made for somebody to misuse.” 
However, he went on to slam Trump, adding, “I’d say he’s being incredibly irresponsible and he’s putting us in a situation where you could have an accidental launch. I mean, his rhetoric might make Kim Jong Un think that he needs to strike first. What we need is someone bringing calm to the situation, not spiking it.” 
Ellison has attracted criticism for comparing the two leaders, with Michael Ahrens, an official for the Republican National Committee saying, “With radical beliefs like these, Democrats need to decide whether Keith Ellison deserves to speak for their party going forward.” 
Meanwhile, someone wrote on Twitter, “I'd like to see @keithellison tell the millions of starving and tortured North Koreans how responsible of a leader Kim Jong-Un is...” 
And another person wrote, “This is the future of the DNC? As an independent I'll NEVER vote democratic again!!”
