Sri Lanka finally showed much needed resistance as Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis' 191-run stand for the second wicket ensured the second Test doesn't ends on the third day itself. The hosts reached 209 for at stumps, following on India's lead of 439, with Karunaratne and nightwatchman Malinda Pushpakumara batting at 2. Mendis slammed a brilliant century off 120 deliveries and denied visitors any advantage in the second innings after being enforced a follow-on. It was their highest batting partnership following-on.
