This headcam footage was shot by the Salvamento Maritimo crew, and shows the operation. The naval ship was on a humanitarian mission to help rescue people risking their lives as passengers in smuggling boats in the Mediterranean Sea.The injured crewman, Craig Clear, from Laois, Ireland, left a thankful message on the Salvamento Maritimo Facebook page, writing: “Thanks lads. Means the world. You saved my life. Keep up the hard work.”Clear told friends on Facebook that he underwent two surgeries, and was making a good recovery.According to the Irish Examiner newspaper, he was not expected to be well enough to return to the mission, and would likely be flown to Cork, in southern Ireland, to continue his recovery.
