As the President Trump has been playing golf at his Sterling, Virginia club, the Coast Guard is implementing a policy that involves temporary and intermittent closures of an adjacent and popular portion of the Potomac River.

That roughly two-mile stretch also happens to be a favorite among boaters, children attending camp, athletes, and wounded veterans. There are also a number of local businesses whose livelihoods are linked to the area’s river activities.
Many have made their displeasure about the interruption to river access known, notes the Washington Post.
Susan Sherrod, chairperson of the Canoe Cruisers Association, told WRC, “It just seems blatantly unfair that Trump shuts everything down so he can have a nice day playing golf, and the rest of us are just out of luck."
John Deitle, a regular user of the river section, told the Post, “Granted, it’s his golf course. But he has other golf courses.”
While closing the river to hundreds as the nation’s leader recreates does sound a bit like something out of the Marie Antoinette playbook, such security measures are not unusual.
However, they do typically involve shutting down roads, not rivers.
