Russian Court Sentences 5 Chechen Men for Nemtsov Murder

A Russian military court on July 13 sentenced five Chechen men found guilty in June of organizing and taking part in the 2015 murder of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov.Nemtsov, a vocal critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was shot dead on a bridge in Moscow two years ago. The men were accused of organizing his contract killing.Zaur Dadayev was found guilty of the murder and sentenced to 20 years in jail. The four others, Khamzat Bakhayev, Temirlan Eskerkhanov and Anzor and Shadid Gubashev, were sentenced to between 11 and 19 years, Russian news agency Tass reported, saying the men would serve their terms at a penal colony.Nemtsov’s family said they believed the people who ordered the attack would escape prosecution, RFE reported.
