Ethics chief who clashed with Trump steps down
  • 7 years ago
The Head of the Office of Government Ethics, Walter Shaub, resigned Thursday after months of conflict with the Trump administration. Shaub informed the president of his decision, calling it the "great privilege and honor of my career" to lead the OGE staff. Shaub, an Obama appointee who was in the fifth and final year of his job, clashed with Trump in May when the White House positioned itself to block the disclosure by the ethics office of ethics waivers granted to dozens of former lobbyists now working in the White House. Prior to his inauguration, Shaub and Trump went at it over the latter's decision to move his assets into a trust controlled by his two oldest sons. Shaub told NPR in an interview that he would be taking a new job at The Campaign Legal Center.
