Thousands March Against Turkish Artillery Shelling in Northwest Syria

Tens of thousands marched through Afrin in northwest Syria on July 5, to protest Turkish military intervention in the area, according to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights.The march follows Turkish shelling in Afrin on July 3 that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, who are in control of the area, said left three people dead.The head of the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia told Reuters, on July 5, that Turkish military deployments near Kurdish-held areas of northwestern Syria amounted to a “a declaration of war”.
