Healthcare Protesters Rally At Assembly Speaker's Office For Single-Payer Bill

The California Nurses Association, the labor-based group for Health California, and supporters of single-payer healthcare mobilized at the Democrat Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon’s office on July 3.Protesters gathered in the hallway with signs and chants against Rendon’s decision to withhold SB 562, a single-payer health care bill, from a vote in the State Assembly. On June 23, the group staged a similar protest in which 500 California residents converged on the state capitol to protest Rendon’s announcement to shelve the bill. Rendon issued a statement earlier last week saying he was “encouraged” by the bill but it was “woefully incomplete,” containing no provisions for delivery of care, cost controls, or financing.
