Activists in rebel-held Daraa city reported several air raids during the morning hours of June 17, mere hours before the implementation of a localized 48-hour ceasefire agreement brokered by Russian, Jordanian, and American diplomatic officials. No casualties were reported in the morning air raids, and in the hours since, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a lull in fighting in the area.Prior to the announcement of the ceasefire, opposition activist groups launched an international social media campaign, Action for Daraa, highlighting the escalating humanitarian crisis in the southern city amid an increase in urban conflict. The White Helmets reported on June 15 that at least 57 civilians, including 13 children, have been killed in Daraa airstrikes since the beginning of June. The Daraa Provincial Council declared the Daraa Camp, a local Palestinian refugee camp in the rebel-controlled part of the city, a disaster zone following the increase in localized airstrikes and ground fighting.
