GOP Congressmen shooter identified as James Hodgkinson

Federal law enforcement officials have identified the shooter who targeted a Republican charity softball event as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois. President Trump stated that Hodgkinson is now dead after being shot by Capitol Police and Alexandria police officers. Hodgkinson asked GOP Representatives whether Democrats or Republicans were practicing on the field before opening fire. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said one rifle and handgun were recovered from the scene. Officials have said that they do not currently know Five people were injured in the shooting, including Rep. Steve Scalise, R-Louisiana, the House majority whip, as well as the suspect. Scalise's office says he is in stable condition and currently undergoing surgery after being shot in the hip.
